Very Insulting


I rented a smartphone from Wireless Traveler to take on a trip to Canada as I do not have a phone that would work there in order to call home. The salesperson was told up front that I am not technologically savvy and I needed a simple phone and I did not want to pay a lot. He recommended a smartphone with an app where I could make wi-fi calls cheaper from my hotels. I went with his recommendation because I did not know any different. When I got the phone, there were no operating instructions and I could not unlock the SIM card. I called their customer service and got Bobby on the phone. He told me to use the PIN in my brochure. There was no PIN in the brochure and I told him that. He gave it to me, but the SIM card would not unlock. He said he would have someone else call me. In the meantime, I started just pushing buttons and accidentally got it unlocked. There was no instruction manual, so after a while I knew that I could not operate this phone while on a trip. I called back and got Ian (the original salesman) on the phone. He was very insulting and would not let me explain that I just wanted to send the phone back as it was beyond my capabilities. He started off by saying they send thousands of phones out and everybody else can use them. I asked if I could get a partial credit since the time for my trip has not arrived and I have not made any call. He said they could not and was further insulting me, saying I was confrontational with him and with the tech support person. He wanted me to pay extra to overnight the phone back to them and they would then send me a simpler phone, for which I would have to again pay the shipping. I reminded him that I had originally asked for a simple phone when I rented it and he said we didn't need go over all that. I did not want another phone from them and I was in tears by the time I hung up. I have never been so insulted in all my life from dealing with any other company anywhere. Apparently Wireless Traveler does not care anything about customer service and the total lack thereof. I will never use them again!
